FIRST COMPLETE BOLLYWOOD HERO
Stung by the sarcastic Hrithik ad, Coke has retaliated with a FAT SHAHRUKH
Ad. This ad will be broadcast during the live telecast on Star Sports
of the Asia Cup match which is being played in Dhaka
Amita Anand, Mukul Anand's wife, has made the FAT SHAHRUKH AD. This ad from MAD films, has a clone of Shahrukh, Prahlad Kakkar (the director of clone Hrithik AD) and Deepak Jolly (the Pepsi India spokesman).
The ad is based on the Clinic All Clear ad with its punch line Zero se Hero. Coke has turned it to Hero se Zero. When contacted, Amita and his partner Manchanda of MAD Films refused to comment on the issue.
When Prahlad was contacted, he was highly amused. He said that Coke had the worst creative ads in the industry. Coke made Aishwarya appear like an ayah in their ad and Hrithik was just wasted in the Coke spot.
Prahlad said that people in general identify the Pepsi campaign better than the Coke one. Coke just throws money but needs to get its act together. However, some sections in Coke are not in favor airing this ad as they feel that this will damage the image of Coke. They feel it is better to let the sleeping dogs lie. Pepsi had earlier received severe drubbing from Hrithik fans for featuring the Shahrukh ad with Hrithik clone wearing braces. The public outcry negated all the benefits of the Pepsi brand recall from the otherwise impressive Hrithik clone ad.
These cola wars are old hat by now. Earlier Pepsi had done a rip-of of the Azhar Coke ad of Eat Cricket, Sleep Cricket, Drink only Coke. Coke had retaliated by a Thums Up ad spoofing the Pepsi one.
This appears to be a long hot summer of cola wars.
